Best Dental Coverage with Aetna

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Aetna is a well-recognized health insurance provider which prides its self in providing good health and dental care to individuals, families, and corporate groups. Dentists who participate in the Aetna dental network have agreed to offer services to plan members at a discount. The insurance provider offers a variety of dental coverage in most states, including Dental Maintenance Organization (DMOs) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPOs). The most popular of the PPOs coverage plans are Aetna Individual Advantage Dental PPO Plan and the Aetna Individual Advantage PPO Plus Plan.

AETNA DENTAL NETWORK FEATURES AND BENEFITS

The Aetna Individual Advantage PPO plans offer members the following coverage benefits:

  • Preventive care services such as cleanings, x-rays and more
  • Basic care like fillings, simple extractions, root canals, basic restorative work and more
  • Major services such as bridges, crowns, dentures and more

WHAT IS MY COST WHEN I VISIT AETNA PARTICIPATING PROVIDERS?

The cost of dental plans is determined based on the number of people being insured, the type of Aetna coverage selected, the age of the applicant, and the zip code in which the applicant lives.

Although you can choose to visit a dentist outside the network without a referral, care received from a non-network dentist means a higher deductible and co-payment. Additionally, seeking care outside the network means your insurance company only pays a portion of the fees. The rest has to be paid by you. So it’s advisable that you ask the non-network dentist their billed charge before you receive care.

HOW DOES PAYMENT FOR AETNA PROVIDER SERVICES WORK?

Members usually pay a co-payment – flat fee – for services within the plan provider network. If you use providers or services outside of the network, you may have to pay a deductible and a percentage of the plans allowed amount, and a balance bill or you may receive no coverage at all, depending upon the type of plan you have.

Aetna touts that their flexible plan designs offer customers more purchasing power by giving them dental funds to help pay for services that are covered under the plans. When members use Aetna participating providers for covered services, they get the advantage of the negotiated rates.
